The specter is Eve and she is shaped like a heart to imply she is the heart of man, the original. Eve forever pulls a fruit from a tree, the fruit forever grows back. She throws the fruit to Adam who is on the other side in the graveyard. She shows directs every man to the graveyard and their mortality, this is her eternal punishment.
